International Mens Health Week takes place annually in the week leading up to and including Father’s Day, with the 2026 campaign running from 15–21 June 2026.

The week aims to raise awareness of preventable health issues affecting men and boys, encourage healthier lifestyle choices, and promote early detection and treatment of physical and mental health conditions.

Many of the themes highlighted during this week are closely connected to the role our role as physiotherapists, treating:

• Musculoskeletal pain
• Workplace injuries
• Physical inactivity
• Cardiovascular health
• Injury recovery
• Mental wellbeing

Through rehabilitation and preventative care, we can help support men in improving long term mobility, maintaining an active lifestyle, and seeking help earlier to promote better overall health and wellbeing.

Gardening pain

As the weather warms and gardens begin to flourish, many people look forward to spending more time outdoors. While gardening is a great way to stay active and support both physical and mental wellbeing, the repetitive movements and physical demands involved can often lead to aches, pains, and injuries, particularly during the spring and summer months.

To help reduce the risk of injury and keep gardening enjoyable, it is important to take a safe and gradual approach when returning to these activities. Some simple ways to protect your body while gardening include:

Warm up with gentle stretches and movement before starting.
Use proper manual handling techniques when lifting heavy pots, tools, or bags of soil.
Avoid staying in one position for too long and alternate tasks regularly to reduce strain on the body.
Take regular breaks to rest, stretch, and stay hydrated while gardening.

At our clinic, we commonly see an increase in gardening related aches and injuries during the warmer months. Many of these issues can be prevented through pacing activities, maintaining strength and flexibility, and listening to your body when discomfort begins.
