Happy 2025, everyone! We're kicking off the year with a FREE educational event at our clinic (with more to come)!

January is the time of year that many of us reflect on our lives and think about any changes that we'd like to make. Everyone has different goals, but it's quite common for people to want to prioritise their health. Life can be chaotic and this means that sometimes we put our health and wellbeing on the back burner, but taking care of ourselves physically and mentally is so important.

If you want to get focused on your health and start the new year on the right foot, then our event is for you. We'll be talking about:

How to safely return to or start exercising
Tips for running or going to the gym
How our diet and nutrition can impact our health

During the event, our Sports Therapist, Ed Manning, will give a presentation and talk about each of these areas, followed by an informal Q&A session where you can ask us any questions that we might be able to help with. We'll provide tea, coffee and cold drinks during the second half.

The evening entirely free of charge and everyone is welcome, however we only have room for 20 people, so if you'd like to come, please book your place here.

DATE: 28th January 2025
TIME: 6pm sharp - 7pm
PLACE: Harding Physiotherapy, 2 West Newlands, Somersham, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 3EB

But wait, there's more! This event will be part of a series of free education evenings at our clinic. Each one will focus on a different topic (so far, we have back pain and sports injuries in the pipeline) so keep an eye out for something that could benefit your health.

We hope to see you there!

Matt's on annual leave in February

Just so you know, Matt will be away from 3rd - 21st February. If you need to book an appointment with Matt, call us in January before he jets off.
Tips for new runners

Thinking of starting running this January? Running is a great way to keep fit - it's free and convenient because you can do it in your own time. Here are a few top tips on how to take care of your body and reduce the risk of an injury.

1. Start small to avoid overdoing it and injuring yourself. At first, try running 2-3 times a week and build up your distance and speed over time. The couch to 5k programme is a great resource for new runners.

2. Warm up and cool down (and yes, both as as important as each other!). Warm up with some dynamic stretches that move your joints and muscles through their full range of movement, and cool down with some static stretches or walking after your run. There's a video on our Instagram page that shows you how to do both.

3. Eat well and stay hydrated. Eating balanced meals and drinking plenty of water will help to fuel your runs and support your recovery.

4. Record your runs and track your progress on an app like Strava. Looking back at how you've improved can be really motivating and inspire you to keep going.

5. Wear the right clothing and shoes. The last thing you want is to be distracted or held back by what you're wearing, so find a supportive and comfortable pair of trainers and clothes that are fitted and won't chafe. If you're running in the dark, it's best to wear some reflective clothing so that you can be seen.

Remember, no matter how far or fast you run, any exercise is better than no exercise. Take things at your pace and celebrate your wins - big or small. If running's not for you, that's fine too, find another way to stay active instead.
